In tonight’s comic adventure: Miss Waxie explains her month long absence from her beloved comic, finally sharing that her condition has been changed and a new course of treatment has been implemented. Fact is, at least so it seems now, Miss Waxie doesn’t have lupus or rheumatoid arthritis or CIDP or most of the autoimmune illnesses she’s been treated for. (You may remember the beginning of this story from a month ago.) She has a rare genetic condition, muckle wells (part of the cyropyrin associated periodic syndromes) and with this new diagnosis comes new treatments – both in the form of better fitting drugs and respect from doctors!

More dramatic than comedic? Maybe today. But the story behind living 23 years with a disease that’s been present since birth? Comic for sure.

Worry not dear readers, this comic is back. I hope you come back to read it, too.

Page_3In Tonight’s Comic Adventure: Miss Waxie’s disease vocabulary expands tenfold as she finds herself faced with yet another possible diagnosis. Shocked, simply shocked at the possibility of hearing words like “manageable” and “better” in relationship to her lifelong battle with autoimmune disease, Miss Waxie finds herself hopeful…and fully confused by the notion. Not to mention, where does this leave her in terms of things like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, cidp, and celiac….?

Dearest Readers, apologies for my absence. My brother graduated from college this week and between the trip to Washington, DC where internet was scarce and processing my most recent round of doctors’ appointments, I simply hadn’t a chance to update. I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for viewing; in just a month, this site has had over 2,000 hits. Take that doctors who claimed there was nothing special or interesting about my disease process!

In Tonight’s Comic Adventure: Miss Waxie takes a moment to enjoy a few victories. First, that she finally, kinda sorta got her perc prescription filled. And secondly, that despite what doctor’s here in Cleveland have said, the systemic celiac disease that she’d been diagnosed with in New York actually DOES exists. There’s victory in there, if you squint. It’s kind of like a magic eye.

In Tonight’s Comic Adventure: Miss Waxie brings you her somewhat belated “Blogging Against Disablism Day” submission – A story that could only come from “Tales Of the Clinic” wherein her Cleveland Clinic neurologist tried to deny her appropriate treatment for her peripherial neuropathy because it might one day, possibly, compromise her fertility. …Talk about your God complex!

A very special thank you to the great people at ChronicBabe for writing about me in their recent newsletter! (And hello, you wonderful new readers, you!) Thanks for including me in your mission to make young ladies with chronic illness know its not just possible, but important, to live chronically fabulous.
