In Tonight’s Comic Adventure: Good news for once! Miss Waxie makes math bend to her will as she subverts the patterned path she’s been on and finally finds a doctor willing to take her and her condition seriously. He even believes Hashimoto’s Encephalopathy exists! ‘Course, he’s an endocrinologist who specializes in transsexual hormone replacement therapy (and thyroid disease), so for once, when she visits him, she’s the most medically normative patient of the day – and that’s saying something!

    Good luck doctor (s)hopping!
Also – Sounds like that new doc – pretty awesome!
And your last question made me giggle, partly due to humor, partly due to understanding!
    ((hugs))

I’m not sure if the glass doctor is national…but his commericial says he can “fix your panes” ..what’s not to love?

The endo is okay too, I suppose… 🙂

  • RA Guy says:

Hi Miss Waxie, I just have to say that your strips are so visually beautiful – I’m always amazed with how you manage to find the perfect photo or illustration to go in each panel. I’m looking forward to many more!!!

    Cheers,
    RA Guy

I am equal parts grateful for your kind words, and fully worried that I won’t be able to live up to such praise. But thank you – surprising as it might be, hours of work go into these, so I’m glad others get as much enjoyment out of them as I do making them!

  • Great post! Doctor shopping is not easy but so important. I love how you convey so much in these posts, and with such humor. (And the math-challenged girl in me relates so much 🙂

    • misswaxie says:

Thank you, Laurie! …And don’t you some times wish that we got increased abilities for being sick? I think I’d choose super math powers as one of mine, just because I’m so sorely lacking in that area… maybe I’d have found the solution to my doctor problem that much sooner!

  • Aviva says:

Yay for getting a good doctor who understands and is willing to take on your health!! Clearly a cool doc, based just on his special emphasis. 🙂

Here’s hoping you find more just like him. (I know I wish I could clone my cardiologist and have docs just like him in all the specialties I need to be seen!!)

    • misswaxie says:

Glad you’ve got at least one good doctor, too!!

You get working on the cloning machine, I’ll bring refreshments, deal?

  • lizschau says:

omgzzzz i LOVE this post. i get it on so many levels. of course i understand the autoimmune/Hashimoto’s thing, but also, i suck at math so bad you have no idea. i’ve failed nearly every math class since elementary school and could barely graduate college due to my math issues. oy. i wrote a thyroid letter about something like this.

anyway, we added your blog to our Thyroid Sistah’s blogroll. seriously love how creative you are with telling your story. 🙂

  • Running Man says:

    Misswaxie –

Thanks for thinking of us. There are more than 360 Glass Doctors across the U.S. and Canada, including Cleveland. I’m sorry we can’t do anything about your physical pains. But we do operate on windows and windshields. Hope you get better soon!
