The Only Test You Fail Is the One You Fail To Take…

In Tonight’s Comic Adventure: Faced with the possibility of not being able to get a sedative for her cataract eye surgery simply because she can’t produce enough urine for her pregnancy test, Miss Waxie wonders who really gets harmed the most by this bad decision, her non-existent fetus, herself, or the poor doctor who got the “if you think your cutting into my eyes while I’m awake you got another thing coming, buddy” riot act read to them. ….She got her drugs, her surgery, and half her dignity to boot. Why does being female so needlessly complicate every moment of the medical life?
Dear Readers, thank you for sticking by me in the recent dip in posting. I’m still having a hard time adjusting to my lens implant…and still awaiting the one in my left eye! Thanks for the well wishes and don’t worry about the missed comics, I’m good for ’em!
Thank you for introducing me to your blog. I really love it! I am sorry to hear about your eyes. You are so brave! How long were you on prednisone? The side effects are awful.
I hope that your eyes heal quickly and well.:)

I’ve been on pred since September 2007 and am actually still on it, but have managed to go from a whooping 60mgs a day to a measly 15mgs. Well, measly by comparison. (Not that the argument works on my orthopedist!)
Thanks for the well wishes and for stopping by!
Sorry about the log in name. It’s my husband ( he is a cutie isn’t he? ) I am logged in as him so I can check my blog stats and I can’t seem to switch to my login
Oh. My. G-d.
Why the hell didn’t they just do a blood test, which is more sensitive than a urine test anyway?!
And they did this over a class C drug?! Jeesh. I took a Class C drug all the way through my pregnancy to control my allergies.
So sorry about the extra stress. I would have needed a double dose of Ativan to get calmed down enough for the surgery after all that if I were you.
Aaaaargh!!
I asked about the blood test – but that takes a few days for the result to get back, versus the rather instant result you get from pee.
Regardless the fact that it was class C was utterly ridiculous. I mean, I take daily low dose chemo for crying out loud…you can’t get (safely) pregnant on that!
Ah well, what’s a trip to the Clinic with out a little drama 🙂
Oh man, the stupid over urine tests…hey, they could have done to you what they did to me at the ER near my parents. I couldn’t pee because I was severely dehydrated, they threatened to catheterize me! I managed to force out just enough urine to test. Ha, I think I’m on ridiculously bad for pregnancy drugs, too – not that I’ve paid much attention, since there will be NO buns in this oven.
Oof. I’m glad that both our stories worked out okay. What I wouldn’t’ve done to be allowed to sign off like they let you! I’m a little envious.
Heh, they weren’t going to cath me since it was possible to do the surgery without the drug. But the last thing you need is a jumpy patient for eye surgery – which besides I could’ve rescheduled anyway, which is the difference between that and the ER – so I guess the situation is kinda different.
But yeah, I’m tellin you. If I could find away to racketeer the stuff, I could be king in some wards, I’m sure!
This is very interesting indeed.Would love to read a little more of this. Great post. Thanks for the heads-up…This blog was very informative and knowledgeable.Good Luck to you.
